In collaboration with the Industrial Engineering department of Padua University
Brentech, a start-up from Schio, Vicenza, dealing with mechanical design and technical partner of companies, in particular in the industrial, medical and sports sectors, took part, in collaboration with the University of Padua, in a research project that lasted a year and was financed from the European Social Fund ESF.
An important step forward for road safety
The project has made it possible to develop a method and a device capable of preventively recognizing potential dangerous situations when driving two-wheeled vehicles, thus introducing a notable advancement in technical and scientific knowledge in this area.
Technical aspects and advantages
Users driving two-wheeled vehicles are the most exposed to road accidents. In 2019 they accounted for more than a third of deaths in Italy. The objective of this project was therefore to create a system capable of reducing the risk associated with the use of two-wheeled vehicles, thus simultaneously encouraging more sustainable mobility. Brentech collaborated with prof. Roberto Lot of the Industrial Engineering department of the Padua University who supported the company in the development of the project and in the creation of the prototype components necessary to achieve the set objectives.
The technical contribution provided by Brentech made it possible to develop and create dedicated components, not available on the market, respecting the constraints and objectives set by the project. Torque sensors, GPS and angular/linear potentiometers were installed on the two-wheeled vehicle used for the tests for data acquisition by a special control unit. The data was analyzed using software developed during the project capable of highlighting risk situations that can lead to conditions of instability and danger for the user.
